Before Christmas 2018 I received an email from comics scholar and champion of laydee graphic novelists; Nicola Streeten.
The British Council and Nicola invited myself and several other artists to take part in a series of workshops in Kathmandu, Nepal under the umberalla of their ongoing ‘Creating Heroines’ project.
I have spent the past week with other female South Asian artists and fellow artists of the South Asian Diaspora. The nationalities included were: Nepal, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the U.K. (I was there due to my British-Indian heritage). The idea was to create work around issues that women face, while opening up the discussion of cultural differences and similiarities.
I can’t share all of the work made as some of it was animation/small zines, but I will pop everyone’s instagram handles at the end of this post so that you can go and look at how incredibly talented and wonderful everyone is! :)
It was an enriching experience and I hope that the discussions we were having will continue. Hopefully you’ll be seeing more collaborative work for ‘Creating Heroines’ very soon! :)
